A davenport is a large upholstered sofa, particularly in American usage.
The term is somewhat old-fashioned but still encountered, especially in the Midwest: The old davenport in grandma's living room seated four comfortably.
In British usage, a davenport is a small writing desk with a sloped top and drawers. (Capitalized Davenport is a surname or place name.)
