cwm
Welsh mountain basin
A cwm is a steep-walled basin on a mountainside, carved by glacial erosion—what geologists also call a cirque.
The word is Welsh, preserved in English mainly through place names and mountaineering: The climbers established base camp in the cwm.
The Western Cwm on Everest is perhaps the most famous example.
