court markings
Playing surface geometry
Court markings are the lines painted or taped on a playing surface that define boundaries and zones in sports like tennis, basketball, and volleyball.
They indicate in-bounds areas, service boxes, free-throw lanes, and other designated spaces essential to gameplay: The ball landed just inside the court markings.
