couple up
Form a pair
Couple up means to form a romantic pair or partnership with someone.
It often describes the moment when two people begin dating or become an item: Half the contestants coupled up by the second episode.
The phrase can also apply more broadly to any pairing off, romantic or not, as when people are assigned partners for an activity.
In British reality TV, particularly dating shows, couple up has become standard vocabulary for choosing or being chosen as someone's partner.
