countersuit
Defendant's legal response
A countersuit is a lawsuit filed in response to another lawsuit, typically by the defendant against the original plaintiff.
When someone sues you, filing a countersuit turns the tables—now both parties are suing each other: After the company sued him for breach of contract, he filed a countersuit alleging fraud.
