cosponsors
Shared bill advocates
Cosponsors are legislators who formally add their names to support a bill introduced by someone else.
The original introducer is the sponsor; those who sign on afterward are cosponsors.
A bill with many cosponsors signals broad support: The bill attracted forty cosponsors before reaching committee.
Outside politics, cosponsors share sponsorship of an event or initiative.
