vulture capitalism

Corporate carrion feeding

Vulture capitalism is an investment strategy focused on acquiring distressed companies or assets at steep discounts, then extracting maximum value—often through layoffs, asset sales, or aggressive restructuring.

The term is pejorative, likening investors to vultures feeding on the dying.

Critics use it to describe private equity firms that profit while workers and communities suffer: Vulture capitalism gutted the factory and left the town for dead.
