converter box
Digital reception device
A converter box is an electronic device that translates one signal format into another, allowing incompatible systems to work together.
The term became widely known during the U.S. transition from analog to digital television broadcasting, when millions of households needed converter boxes to receive digital signals on older analog TVs: We got a converter box so Grandma's old TV would still work.
