constructive dismissal
Engineered employee departure
Constructive dismissal is when an employer makes working conditions so intolerable that an employee has no reasonable choice but to resign.
Though the employee technically quits, the law treats it as a termination by the employer: She sued for constructive dismissal after they cut her pay and demoted her without cause.
The concept allows workers to claim wrongful termination even when they weren't formally fired.
