forced resignation
Involuntary career exit
A forced resignation is the act of leaving a position—typically employment or public office—under pressure rather than by genuine choice.
The person technically resigns, but the alternative is usually termination or public exposure: After the scandal broke, his forced resignation was inevitable.
The phrase often appears in political and corporate contexts where maintaining appearances matters: a resignation looks better than a firing, even when everyone understands the circumstances.
