consolation round
Tournament second chance
A consolation round is a secondary competition for contestants who have been eliminated from the main bracket, giving them another chance to compete—often for third place or simply continued participation.
Common in tournaments where organizers want to ensure everyone gets multiple games: After losing in the semifinals, they played in the consolation round.
