cone temperature
Ceramic firing measurement
Cone temperature refers to heat levels in ceramic kilns, measured by pyrometric cones—small pyramids of ceramic material that bend and melt at specific temperatures.
Potters and ceramicists use cone numbers rather than degrees: Fire to cone 6, This glaze needs cone 10.
The system accounts for both temperature and time, since ceramics respond to accumulated heat, not just peak readings.
