condonation

Overlooking an offense

Condonation is the act of condoning—forgiving, overlooking, or implicitly accepting wrongdoing.

The word appears most often in legal contexts, particularly divorce law, where condonation of a spouse's offense (such as adultery) could bar using that offense as grounds for divorce: The court found that her continued cohabitation with him constituted condonation of the affair.
