competitive matches
Games with stakes
Competitive matches are games or contests where the outcome matters—where players or teams compete to win rather than for practice or casual play.
The term appears across sports, video games, and other structured competitions: I only play competitive matches on weekends when I can focus.
Distinguished from friendly matches, scrimmages, or casual play by stakes like rankings, standings, or advancement.
