companion app
Software for hardware
A companion app is a mobile application designed to work alongside another product—typically a video game, TV show, or piece of hardware.
The app extends functionality or provides supplementary content: The companion app lets you manage your inventory while away from the console.
Smart home devices often require companion apps for setup and control.
