coeds

University women, informally

Coeds are female students at a coeducational institution—one that admits both sexes.

The term dates from when women's admission to previously all-male colleges was noteworthy.

Now somewhat dated, it appears most often in contexts emphasizing young women's presence on campus: college coeds, a sorority full of coeds.

The singular coed can also function as an adjective meaning coeducational: a coed dormitory.
