cliff ledge
Narrow mountain perch
A cliff ledge is a narrow horizontal surface projecting from a cliff face—a natural shelf of rock where climbers rest or birds nest.
The phrase is slightly redundant since ledges typically occur on cliffs or steep surfaces, but it emphasizes the precarious setting: They found a cliff ledge barely wide enough to sit on.
