Cineplexes is the plural of cineplex, a large movie theater complex with multiple screens under one roof.
The word blends cinema and complex.
Cineplexes became the dominant model for movie exhibition in the late twentieth century, replacing single-screen theaters: The old downtown theater closed when the cineplex opened at the mall.
