chromosomal disorder
DNA structure problem
A chromosomal disorder is a medical condition caused by abnormalities in chromosome number or structure—missing, extra, or damaged chromosomes.
Down syndrome results from an extra copy of chromosome 21; Turner syndrome from a missing X chromosome.
Most chromosomal disorders cause developmental differences, and many are detectable through prenatal testing.
