chimneysweep

Rooftop soot remover

A chimneysweep is a person who cleans soot and debris from chimneys to prevent fires and improve airflow.

The occupation dates to when coal and wood fires were standard heating, and chimneysweeps—often young boys small enough to climb flues—became figures of urban folklore.

Now mostly chimney sweep as two words.
