Chess variants are games derived from or related to standard chess, modifying rules, board size, pieces, or objectives.
Some variants like bughouse or three-check alter gameplay while keeping the basic framework.
Others like shogi (Japanese chess) or xiangqi (Chinese chess) developed independently but share chess's strategic DNA.
Fischer Random is my favorite chess variant.
