character witnesses
Moral reference providers
Character witnesses are people who testify about someone's moral qualities, reputation, or typical behavior rather than about specific events.
They appear most often in court proceedings, speaking to whether the accused is honest, peaceful, or trustworthy: The defense called three character witnesses who described him as gentle and law-abiding.
Character witnesses may also appear in professional hearings or immigration cases.
