Character select is the screen or phase in a video game where players choose which character to play.
Fighting games, RPGs, and multiplayer games typically open with character select, displaying available fighters or avatars with their stats and abilities: I always take forever at character select.
The term sometimes extends to any situation involving choosing among distinct options or personas.
