challenge run
Voluntary gaming handicap
A challenge run is a self-imposed set of restrictions while playing through a video game, designed to increase difficulty or create novel gameplay experiences.
Players might attempt a game without taking damage, without using certain items or abilities, or while speedrunning: I'm doing a challenge run where I can't level up.
The term extends to any deliberately handicapped playthrough, from casual experiments to competitive categories with established rules.
