Middle back position
Centre half is a position in association football (soccer), referring to a defender who plays in the central area of the back line.
The term is more common in British English and older football discourse; modern usage often prefers centre back or central defender.
Historically, the centre half played a more midfield-oriented role before tactical evolution pushed the position deeper.
