cathole
Wilderness waste pit
A cathole is a small hole dug in the ground to bury human waste when camping or hiking in areas without toilet facilities.
Outdoor ethics guidelines typically specify digging six to eight inches deep and at least two hundred feet from water sources: Dig a cathole before you go, then cover it completely.
The term reflects the burying behavior of cats.
