catch and throw

Receive and release

Catch and throw is a programming mechanism for non-local control flow—jumping out of deeply nested code to a designated handler.

Unlike exception handling, it's not primarily for errors but for structured exits: The parser uses catch and throw to bail out when it hits invalid syntax.

The throw transfers control to a matching catch, unwinding the call stack along the way.

Common in Lisp and Ruby, where it provides cleaner alternatives to flags or multiple returns.
