cashier's cheque

Guaranteed bank payment

A cashier's cheque is a cheque issued by a bank rather than an individual, drawn on the bank's own funds.

Because the bank guarantees payment, cashier's cheques are considered more secure than personal cheques and are often required for large transactions: The seller insisted on a cashier's cheque for the down payment.

Also spelled cashier's check.
