cash values

Dollar amount equivalents

Cash values are the amounts of money that life insurance policies accumulate over time, which policyholders can access through withdrawals or loans while still alive.

Unlike term life insurance, whole life and universal life policies build cash value as a form of savings component: The policy's cash value had grown to fifteen thousand dollars.

Upon surrender of the policy, the owner receives this amount minus any fees.
