caribous

Tundra-roaming cervids

Caribous is the plural of caribou, a large deer of arctic and subarctic regions, known in Europe as reindeer.

The word comes from Mi'kmaq through Canadian French.

Unlike most deer species, both male and female caribou grow antlers.

The caribous migrated south as winter approached.

The plural caribou is equally correct and more common.
