campus green
University's central grass
A campus green is the central lawn or open grassy area on a college or university campus, typically surrounded by academic buildings and serving as a gathering space for students.
The term evokes traditional collegiate architecture: Students lounged on the campus green between classes.
Sometimes shortened to simply the green.
