by-law

Internal organizational rule

A by-law is a rule or regulation governing the internal affairs of an organization—a corporation, club, or local authority.

Corporate by-laws establish procedures for meetings, elections, and duties of officers.

In British and Canadian usage, by-laws are also regulations enacted by local governments: The by-law prohibits parking on this street overnight.
