Rapid controller abuse
Button mashing is rapidly and repeatedly pressing buttons on a video game controller, often without strategy or precision.
Players button mash when they don't know the proper controls, when a game rewards speed over technique, or when panicking during intense gameplay: I just button mashed my way through the boss fight.
The term can describe both a desperate tactic and a legitimate play style in fighting games.
