burial shrouds
Cloths for interment
Burial shrouds are cloths used to wrap a body for burial.
Before coffins became standard, the dead were typically wrapped in simple fabric—often linen or cotton—and placed directly in the ground.
Some religious traditions still prefer shrouds: Jewish burial uses a plain white cloth called a tachrichim, and Islamic practice wraps the body in kafan.
She was buried in a simple burial shroud as her faith required.
