buntings
Colorful party decorations
Buntings are small seed-eating songbirds related to finches and sparrows, found across North America and Eurasia.
The indigo bunting and painted bunting are known for the males' vivid plumage.
Separately, bunting is festive fabric decoration—flags, streamers, or draped cloth in patriotic colors, hung for celebrations and parades: red, white, and blue bunting decorated the porch.
