drainage tile
Underground water conduit
Drainage tile is perforated pipe or tubing buried underground to collect and channel excess water away from soil.
Despite the name, modern drainage tile is typically corrugated plastic rather than the clay tiles originally used.
Farmers install it to prevent waterlogging in fields: The wet corner of the field needs drainage tile.
Also used around building foundations to direct groundwater away from basements.
