buffalo robe
Plains hide wrap
A buffalo robe is the hide of an American bison, tanned with the fur intact and used as a blanket, bedding, or winter covering.
Before widespread bison slaughter in the nineteenth century, Native American peoples produced them for their own use and for trade: wrapped in a buffalo robe against the cold.
