bubble canopy
Curved aircraft enclosure
A bubble canopy is a transparent aircraft enclosure that curves outward in a smooth, rounded shape rather than using flat panels.
The design gives pilots significantly better visibility, especially overhead and to the sides.
Bubble canopies became standard on fighter aircraft during World War II and remain common on small planes and military jets: The P-51 Mustang's bubble canopy gave pilots a clear view in all directions.
