brooding hero
Dark, troubled lead
A brooding hero is a protagonist characterized by dark intensity, emotional depth, and tortured introspection.
The type appears across genres—Gothic novels, romance, superhero stories—marked by mysterious pasts, smoldering silences, and an air of danger softened by hidden vulnerability.
Think Heathcliff, Mr.
Darcy, Batman.
She had a weakness for brooding heroes with tragic backstories.
