breathalyzers
Drunk driving detectors
Breathalyzers are devices that measure blood alcohol content from a breath sample.
Police use them to test suspected drunk drivers—you blow into a tube, and the device estimates how much alcohol is in your bloodstream.
The term comes from the brand name Breathalyzer, now used generically for any such device.
He failed the breathalyzer and was arrested for DUI.
