book introduction
Author's preliminary words
A book introduction is the opening section where an author or editor establishes context, purpose, and scope before the main content begins.
Unlike a preface, which often discusses how the book came to be written, an introduction typically orients readers to the subject matter itself: The introduction surveys previous scholarship on the topic.
In edited collections, introductions may summarize each contributor's chapter.
