boarding parties
Naval assault teams
Boarding parties are groups sent to board a vessel, whether for military assault, inspection, or seizure.
In naval warfare, boarding parties storm enemy ships to capture them or fight hand-to-hand.
Coast guards and navies also send boarding parties for routine inspections: The boarding party found contraband in the cargo hold.
The term extends to science fiction, where crews board spacecraft.
