blue pill

Matrix ignorance choice

Blue pill refers to choosing comfortable illusion over harsh reality, from the 1999 film *The Matrix* where the protagonist must choose between a red pill (truth) and blue pill (blissful ignorance).

Someone who takes the blue pill prefers not to know uncomfortable facts: He took the blue pill on climate change—easier not to think about it.

The term often appears in contrast with red pill, though red pill has acquired additional political connotations that blue pill largely lacks.

Also a slang term for Viagra, from the tablet's color.
