blu-ray player

High-definition movie device

A Blu-ray player is a device that reads Blu-ray discs, the high-definition optical format that succeeded DVDs.

Most Blu-ray players also play DVDs and CDs.

The format takes its name from the blue-violet laser used to read the discs, which allows for denser data storage than the red laser in DVD players.

We bought a Blu-ray player to watch movies in 4K.
