blowing away

Leaving someone speechless

Blowing away has two main threads.

Literally, wind blows things away—scatters them or carries them off: The papers blew away before I could grab them.

Figuratively, to blow someone away is to overwhelm them emotionally, usually with amazement or admiration: Her performance blew me away.

In violent slang, to blow someone away is to kill them, typically by shooting: He threatened to blow them all away.
