blocking foul
Illegal stationary contact
A blocking foul in basketball occurs when a defensive player impedes an offensive player's movement without establishing legal guarding position—typically by moving into the path of a player who is already driving or jumping.
The distinction between a blocking foul and a charge (where the offensive player is at fault) is one of the most contested calls in the sport: The ref called a blocking foul, but the replay showed he had his feet set.
