late hit
Post-whistle contact penalty
A late hit is contact with an opponent after the play has ended—after the whistle blows, the ball is released, or the player is clearly out of bounds.
In football, hitting a quarterback after he's thrown is a late hit.
The term extends to any delayed attack that violates fair play: That press release was a late hit before the election.
