A biro is a ballpoint pen—the ubiquitous writing instrument with a tiny rotating ball that dispenses ink.
The term is standard in British English and several other varieties, where it functions as a generic word for any ballpoint regardless of brand: Have you got a biro I can borrow?
Americans typically say "pen" or "ballpoint" instead. (Capitalized Biro is the surname of the inventor.)
