quill pen
Feathered writing tool
A quill pen is a writing instrument made from a bird's flight feather, typically from a goose, with the tip cut to a point and split to hold ink.
Quills were the dominant writing tool in the Western world for over a thousand years, until steel pen nibs replaced them in the 19th century.
The word quill alone often means the same thing: He dipped his quill in the inkwell.
