Mania and depression
Bipolar disorders are mental health conditions characterized by extreme mood swings between emotional highs (mania or hypomania) and lows (depression).
During manic episodes, a person may feel euphoric, energetic, or irritable; during depressive episodes, hopeless and lethargic.
The condition exists on a spectrum—bipolar I involves full manic episodes, while bipolar II features milder hypomanic periods.
She was diagnosed with bipolar disorder after years of cycling between intense productivity and deep depression.
